1. California Declares State of Emergency as Monkeypox Spreads

Gov. Gavin Newsom of California declared a state of emergency on Monday to address a monkeypox outbreak, making the state the third in four days to elevate its public health response to the rapidly spreading disease.

The declaration followed similar actions by New York on Friday and Illinois on Monday, and the city of San Francisco on Thursday. Mayor Eric Adams of New York also declared a local emergency on Monday.

“California is working urgently across all levels of government to slow the spread of monkeypox, leveraging our robust testing, contact tracing and community partnerships strengthened during the pandemic to ensure that those most at risk are our focus for vaccines, treatment and outreach,” Mr Newsom said in a statement.

2. Petrol, Diesel Price Today Below Rs 100 in Delhi, Other Cities; Know How Much You Have to Pay

Prices for petrol and diesel were not changed on Wednesday, August 03. They have remained the same for over two months now.

When the Domestic LPG cylinder rate was increased last month, it was speculated that the Centre would also hike the fuel prices. It was because, since the start of the year, petrol and diesel prices have been a cause of concern for common people.

In May, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the Centre had cut down the excise duty on petrol and diesel. After the government took the step, the price of petrol fell by Rs 8 per litre, and diesel price fell by Rs 6 per litre across the country.

3. Arab Financial Services expands its digital payments solutions into Egypt

Egypt - Arab Financial Services (AFS) — a leading digital payment solutions provider and fintech enabler in the Middle East and Africa — has announced plans to expand its payments footprint in Egypt by establishing a branch in Egypt.

AFS Egypt will deliver the latest payment solutions and innovations to the country’s businesses and financial institutions. “The unprecedented growth in the Egyptian market over the past few years has yielded opportunities for all stakeholders in the payments ecosystem to expand regionally.

Moving into new markets is just the first step of our ambitious growth strategy. However, it’s not just about expansion for us; it’s just as much about us being there to serve our customers on a local basis or regionally for those of our customers with a wider geographic spread,

with a real focus on providing service quality and making it easier for our customers to transact,” said CEO of AFS Samer Soliman.

4. OnePlus, Motorola Reportedly Cancel Launch Events In China Amid Rising Tensions Within Region

OnePlus is set to debut the OnePlus 10T 5G later today. Apart from OnePlus, Motorola was also launching its next-gen Moto Razr clamshell-like folding smartphone in China on August 2 and OnePlus was launching the OnePlus 10T 5G in the country as the ‘OnePlus Ace Pro’ tonight itself.

However, just ahead of the two launches, both companies have cancelled their events, reportedly due to recent developments in the country. Motorola suddenly cancelled its event just hours before the launch was scheduled for last night.

Lenovo's General Manager for China announced the development in a social media post. This, according to reports, is happening due to the Geopolitical situation in the country. Later, OnePlus also confirmed that it is axing its China event for the OnePlus Ace Pro, which is launching globally as the OnePlus 10T 5G.

5. ReNew Power eyes green hydrogen projects in Africa
